Student Help

Below are answers to the most common questions/issues students experience when using TutorHi. If none of these answers solve your problem, you can always contact us.

Finding Tutors

Searching for tutors is pretty self-explanatory and works much like Google search.

Simply open the TutorHi mobile or web app, navigate to the Search tab, and input your search query

For example, if you are looking for english language tutors, simply search for 'english', just like how you would when doing a Google search, and you will get a list of tutors that teach english.

If you are looking for something more specific, such as tutors who teach Harvards's CS50x course, typing in the keywords, 'Harvard CS50x', will return you the tutors you are looking for (if they exist)

We recommend you keep your search queries as concise as possible. E.g., if you are looking for math tutors, do not search 'Math tutors near me': simply searching 'Math' will get you the best results

After finding a tutor that you believe is a good fit, you can message them directly by pressing the 'Message' button on their Ad. Messaging is instant on TutorHi, and your tutor will receive your message as soon as you send it.

Lessons

When you want to book a lesson with a tutor you have been talking to, it is time to send a Lesson Request.

How to send a Lesson Request
  1. Simply click the 'Request Lesson' button, in the Messages Screen or Ad Screen

  2. Fill in the desired details, such as date, time, location and price.

    • For example: you want a lesson on Wednesday, 5PM, Online & through Zoom. If so, simply fill in the Lesson Request fields correspondingly.

  3. Press the 'Send Lesson Request' button!

Once you have sent the Lesson Request to the tutor, they have three options:

Accept

Congratulations! The tutor has accepted your request, and you now have a lesson booked. The details of the lesson, such as time, location, payment, etc will be shown in the Confirmed Lessons Tab. All that is left for you to do is to pay for the lesson and attend the lesson at the agreed date and time.

Edit

That's ok. When your tutor edits a Lesson Request, they modify some details of your original request and send it back to you for review.

Maybe the price you requested is too low, maybe the time is not convenient for them, etc.

It is then up to you to:

  • Accept their changes

  • Edit the lesson details yourself and send it back for them to review

  • Decline the Lesson Request

Decline

If your tutor declines your Lesson Request, they are not interested in tutoring you on those terms. In that case, it is best to message them for a reason, and work out the issue.

Sometimes you just have to reschedule a lesson because life happens. No worries!

TutorHi allows you to reschedule easily.

  1. Simply navigate to the Lesson Screen for your lesson by finding it in the Confirmed Lessons Tab, and press the 'Reschedule' button.

  2. Then select the new time, date and/or location desired and send the Lesson Reschedule Request.

Note It is completely up to your tutor to accept or decline the Lesson Reschedule Request. If they accept your request, then the lesson has been successfully rescheduled. If they decline your request, then the lesson's time, date and location remains as originally agreed.

If your tutor declines your Lesson Reschedule Request and you absolutely cannot attend the lesson, it is best to cancel the lesson, as you are eligible for a partial refund - with the refund amount dependent on the proxmity of the cancellation time to the lesson start time. Over 1 hour before lesson starts

TutorHi allows you to cancel a lesson as long as you do it one hour before it starts.

This gives ample notice for your tutor, who can then adjust their plans accordingly

Under 1 hour before lesson starts

If it is under one hour before your lesson starts, you cannot cancel the lesson. Here, it is best to message your tutor and let them know that you cannot attend the lesson. Once the lesson officially 'ends', your tutor will have the option to review you, and you will have the option to review them.

If it is a honest mistake, and you have explained it to your tutor they will likely give you a positive review. Try to avoid cancelling unless you absolutely have to, otherwise you may risk developing a bad reputation

Once the lesson ends, you will receive a notification to review it.

How to submit a review
  1. To do so, you can either:

    • Press on the notification asking for your review or,

    • Navigate to the Completed Lessons Tab and open your completed lesson

  2. Then, simply press the 'Review' button to provide a review

What can I say on a review
A rating out of five

How did you find it? If it was great, give it a 5 star rating!

What you learnt

In order for us to better rate your tutor, please select at least once subject in the subject list that you feel best described the content taught during your lesson.

Doing so will allow us to better rank your tutor for other students looking for help with similar subjects.

An optional note

Completely optional. If you are in a hurry or don't feel a note is necessary, just leave it blank. If this tutor was extremely good and helped you a lot, maybe leave a postitive note and vice versa.

Other students can see your note when they look at your tutors reviews.
